Project 2025 is calling the shots

The Heritage Foundation's anti-American and anti-democratic Project 2025 is the dangerous White Christian Nationalist playbook that Trump is using to call the shots, even though Trump lied about knowing anything about the document prior to the election. Most of the flurry of Trump's executive orders have been lifted from the 922-page document. The majority of Republicans are White Christian Nationalists, and it's not what people think. This "sect" (read: cult) of ultra-right-wing Christians wants to turn America into a Christian theocracy, overturning the secular state and everything liberals hold dear. It's a version of Christian "dominionism." Incidentally, the Heritage Foundation has ties to dictator Viktor Orbán’s Danube Institute.

Project 2025 compiles the work of hundreds of conservative operatives and ideologues into a stunningly radical plan to infiltrate and reconstruct the federal government by dramatically expanding presidential power, shredding the social safety net, eliminating key environmental and civil rights protections, and imposing a reactionary cultural agenda — all while cutting taxes for the wealthy. It's a roadmap to effectively end American democracy as we know it.

Robert P. Jones, Ph.D., president of Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI), as well as the author of the New York Times bestsellers The Hidden Roots of White Supremacy and the Path to a Shared American Future, and White Too Long: The Legacy of White Supremacy in American Christianity, which won a 2021 American Book Award, was interviewed by Jan Rubin of The Contrarian.

In that interview Jones gave the following common traits of White Christian Nationalism and the MAGA movement:

• Rationalization for violence
• Sympathy for QAnon views
• Denial of systemic racism
• Strong anti-immigrant attitudes
• Strong anti-Muslim attitudes
• Racist antisemetic attitudes
• Patriarchal attitudes (i.e. a society controlled by men)
